Shelby just after her first bath. This is my favorite picture of her!!! So calm and perfect!
Her new born onesie was just a bit too big. Long legs, arms, hand and feet...just like her daddy:)
I know you're all wanting to hear about the wonderful story of our Shelby's arrival. On Wed. morning at 5:30 a.m. I got my first HARD contraction and had 1 every hour, for 4 hours. by 9:00 a.m. they were gone and I started to calm down. Since Shelby's our first I wasn't sure if these were really contractions or not so I didn't do much. Scott had to go into work that morning so I was a little scared to be home alone, and my due date was still a week away, but I insured him I would keep him updated. My sis. Tamara came over to help me with the nursery and I still was just fine. Since Scott was working I went to my parents house to spend the night just to be safe. While my mom and I were eating dinner I started to get the contractions again, but this time they weren't stopping. My mom told me to start timing them and if they get 5-10 min. apart we would take off to the hospital. So around 6:30 p.m. Wed. night I started timing my contractions and they were 15 min. apart by 8:00 p.m. they got to be 10 min. apart (I called Scott to let him know we might be having our baby tonight. He sounded so excited and nervous it was funny). If you can just picture me sitting on a coach with a watch, watching the Olympics, that's what I was doing all night working/breathing through the contractions. At 11:00 p.m. my contractions became 8 min. apart and really starting to hurt. I still wasn't sure if I should go to the hospital, but my mom said so. We got to American Fork hospital at 12:00 a.m. Thurs. morning February 25, was dialated to a 5+ (which the day before I was just dialated to a 3-4) so they said they were going to keep me, that's when it hit me, I was going to have my baby that night, I called Scott to meet me, got my epidural at 1:45 a.m (can I just say I LOVE epidurals! I was able to take an hour nap during my contractions just before Shelby came...heaven!!!) 2:30 a.m. dialated to a 8+, 3:30 a.m. dialated to a 10 Dr. Jones popped my water, started pushing with my contractions, 15 min. later at 4:11 a.m. Shelby was born!!! Everything happened so quick. I'm so happy Scott and my mom were there to help. Shelby had a bowl movement just before she was delivered so there were respiratory therapist standing by in the room. When she was born Scott cut the umbilical cord and handed them right over to the respiratory therapist. Everything was just fine, and I was able to hold me little girl in my arms mins. later.
I totally lost it after I delivered Shelby. I was happy, excited, I started to cry...I was the biggest emotional wreck, but I was so happy that my little (5 lbs 2 oz) girl was here safe and healthy. It's crazy how scared you can be to give child birth, but now going through it I would do it all over again. I had such a good labor and I know my heavenly father and family were there to help me through. I love being a mom! I can't quite explaine it, but it's the best feeling in the world! Scott and I are doing awesome, so happy to be home and starting this new life with Shelby. Thanks everyone for your gifts and hugs, love and support. We love you all!
